How To Find the Perfect Fitness Trainer

Thanks to the huge increase in all things health and fitness, we have seen a record number of people register at various gyms.  Unfortunately, most of these new members have very little experience with the gym or more specifically, how to create, for themselves, a realistic and safe workout plan.  This usually means that we end up with a large number of gym members who are going from one machine to the next, not quite knowing how best to benefit from their training sessions.

Fortunately, however, most gyms do offer the services of personal fitness trainers.  These trainers are qualified and certified and can, among other things, write up and create, for any gym member, a workout or training plan that is both safe and highly effective, in other words, a plan that will get you the results that you are hoping to achieve with your visits to the gym.

However, the truth is that not all fitness trainers are of the same caliber.  While they may all be qualified, you will want to make sure to do your research carefully before selecting the right fitness trainer for you:

  • Before you meet with any fitness trainers, make sure that you have written down your own thoughts, goals and issues about your training sessions.  You will want to have all your “ducks in a row” when you actually do meet with potential fitness trainers.
  • Don’t necessarily “settle” for the first trainer you meet.   Ask to speak with a few different trainers and, usually, the gym will comply with this request. Alternatively, you can also bring in, from the outside, your own trainer;
  • Have an honest and frank discussion with any potential trainer. Be clear about your expectations and your goals and make sure that both of you share the same vision on the how, when, why and where of your program.  Don’t hesitate to ask questions and, if you feel uncomfortable, move on to another trainer;
  • Once you have selected the trainer you would like to work with, establish a set schedule and make sure that you commit to it and to your trainer.

Fitness trainers can make going to the gym a much more entertaining and challenging experience.  So, why not jump onboard and see what the fun is all about.
